Our history

Welcome to Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources.

Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources is a 501 C 3 tax exempt community mental health center that was founded in 1973. Based in Hattiesburg, Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources provides numerous mental health services in four main service areas: Adult, Child and Adolescent, Chemical Dependency and Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities.

Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources has offices in 18 Mississippi counties and provides services from 68 locations. Services are available to residents of Amite, Covington, Forrest, Franklin, Greene, Hancock, Harrison, Jeff Davis, Jones, Lamar, Lawrence, Marion, Pearl River, Perry, Pike, Stone, Walthall and Wayne counties. Select services are available in Jackson county. Across the agency, Pine Belt employs more than 800 full and part‐time staff working throughout the region.

Pine Belt holds the highest level of accreditation of its services from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.

MHCA

PBMHR is also a member of Mental Health Corporations of America, Inc. MHCA includes in its network only the highest quality behavioral healthcare organizations in the country. These achievements demonstrate that Pine Belt meets and exceeds high quality standards of care.

NCCBH

Pine Belt is a member of the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare, the oldest and largest trade association representing the nation’s providers of mental health, substance abuse and developmental disability services.

MS DMH

Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources is certified by the State of Mississippi Department of Mental Health.

NHSC

PBMHR is an approved NHSC site. NHSC is a federal government program administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration,  Bureau of Health Workforce.

Leadership

Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources is guided by a Board of Commissioners who represents each of the eighteen counties in our service area. These individuals are appointed by the Board of Supervisors in their respective counties.

Board meetings are scheduled on the last Thursday of each month except in November and December. In order to avoid conflict with Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, the November and December meetings are combined into one meeting on either the 1st or 2nd Thursday of December.  Meetings are held at 10:30 a.m. at 4100 Mamie Street, Hattiesburg, MS.

Special meetings of the Board may be called by the Chairperson at any time with appropriate written notice to members.
